Three-times World Rally Champion Tommi Makinen was determined to make it a record-breaking four in a row in 1999, but he would face a season-long battle with some of the greatest drivers ever. Enjoy high-speed action, controversy, drama and spectacular spills from all 14 rounds of this truly incredible season, with stunning footage and behind-the-scenes interviews putting you at the heart of the WRC title chase.
The Flying Finn in his Mitsubishi Lancer would be challenged by British hero Colin McRae, the Subaru Impreza pairing of veteran Juha Kankkunen and Richard Burns, Didier Auriol and Carlos Sainz in their Toyota Corollas plus many more.
It started well for Makinen, but McRae in the brand new Ford Focus battled his way into contention in typically determined style, while wins for Kankkunen, Burns, Auriol and even Formula Two Citroen driver Philippe Bugalski ensured this would be a dramatic fight for the World Championship.
Across five continents, from the snow and ice of Monte-Carlo to the rain and mud of Britain, this is the full story of an unforgettable season. Incredible action footage, including plenty of jaw-dropping drama captured from inside the cars, brings you every vital moment, and several shocking crashes!
At the end of the '99 season, after almost three decades in rallying's top flight, Toyota left the WRC. This programme includes a tribute to the Japanese manufacturer, recalling its incredible championship successes.
'Duke's terrific collection of World Rally Championship reissues on DVD continues to offer fantastic nostalgia trips for rally fans....the seasonal reviews are great - all work in the Motorsport News office ground to a halt as we relived Colin McRae's glorious 1995 WRC success' Motorsport News
'Relive the end of the Group B rallying era and the start of the Group A revolution with Duke's superb season review DVDs. The years 1985 to 1991 are available now and make perfect gifts for the anorak and bobble hat brigade. Muddy brilliant!' Autosport
"More great footage from the World Rally Championship. Bringing the debut of the Ford Focus, Colin McRae switches to the new team. As well as this, it also sees the final year of competition in WRC for Toyota. The DVD takes a brief break from the season for a quick, nice look at Toyota's successes over the years. Not the most exciting championship, but still, like most of the WRC DVDs, the footage and summarising is perfect" Track and Race Cars We're on INSTAGRAM: http://bit.ly/2evtvsg
