Chief Inspector of Prisons Peter Clarke has said conditions at HMP Birmingham were “amongst the worst” his team had seen. Drug abuse, serious violence, and a total lack of staff control have all increased at the prison, which in 2016 saw the worst outbreak of rioting at an English jail in more than two decades. The Ministry of Justice has now assumed control of the establishment from G4S for at least six months. Report by Blairm.
