Wine goes well with just about anything, but why not wow guests at your next party by pairing a boozy beverage with food that complements exactly what guests are drinking. Dining with Skyler founder Skyler Bouchard knows all about food and wine pairings, and she shared some of her expert tips with Us Weekly in the video above.
In fact, Skyler, who is the host of Food Network’s digital series, Treat Yourself with Skyler, paired Kim Crawford’s “fresh” Sauvignon Blanc with not one, not two, but three easy-to-make apps that will ensure your soirees are hassle-free and memorable.
First up, the prosciutto-wrapped asparagus appetizer with a balsamic drizzle complements a crisp Sauvignon Blanc thanks to, as Skyler explains, “the saltiness of the prosciutto and the earthiness of the asparagus.”
Next, goat cheese apple crostini, which Skyler says are “super easy to make,” complement both the herbal notes in the wine thanks to the herbed cheese, and the “bright flavor” of the beverage, which is also found in the apples.
“Wine and cheese is that age old pairing, everyone does it, and that’s because the acidity of the wine really cuts the creaminess of the cheese, and you can really get that here,” Skyler adds.
Lastly, Skyler’s poached shrimp cocktail, which is served in individual cups, pairs well with Sauvignon Blanc because the lemon juice used to season the fish complements the acidity of the wine. “White fish and white wine go really well together,” Skyler explains, adding that this combo is “really fresh, really delicious.”
