Imran Khan- From Cornered Tiger to Prime Minister of
Pakistan
Khan was born to a Upper-middle class Pashtun father
and Muhajir mother in Lahore, Punjab in 1952.
He got education from prestigious institutions like
Aitchison College Lahore, Royal Grammar School in
Worcester and Keble College, Oxford.
Started playing cricket in young age and debut for
Pakistan at the age of 18.
He soon became one of the best players of his time.
He captained Pakistan and Won 1992 Cricket World
cup.
Apart from cricket , he kept doing social work. His
landmark projects are Shaukat Khanum Memorial
Hospital( first cancer hospital of Pakistan) and NUML
University in Mianwali.
He founded his own political party on 25th April 1996
with the name of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(Movement
for justice).
In 1997 General Elections, Khan contested from two
seats NA-53 Mianwali and NA-94 Lahore, but lost to
PML-N candidates on both seats, but kept struggling.
He supported Parvez Musharraf Martial Law in 1999.
In 2002 General Elections , Imran won his Mianwali
seat and became only MNA of PTI.
On 2nd October 2007 Khan resigned from Parliament in
protest to Musharraf’s Presidential Elections.
According to Imran Khan, President Musharraf offered
him Prime Ministership but he rejected.
He was sent to jail in 2007 after Musharraf imposed
Emergency in the country.
Continuing his protest, he boycotted 2008 General
Elections.
In the meantime he kept doing his efforts to mobilize
the masses against the political mafia.
In 2011, Khan addressed more than one lac people in
Lahore Minar-e-Pakistan Jalsa.
One of the biggest jalsa in country’s history lifted Khan
as biggest challenge to the Political elites in the next
elections.
In result of his relentless efforts, PTI emerged as the 2nd
Largest Political Party of Pakistan, And Khan as the
most popular leader.
PTI also made government in KPK .
Imran Khan alleged 2013 elections as rigged and
started movement to get justice.
The protest was started across the country with the
demand of then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s
resignation.
The turning point of Imran Khan’s politics was Azaadi
March which he started on 14th August 2014 and it
eventually became a long standing 126 days SitIn(Dharna)
in Islamabad Red Zone.
His only motive was to get rid of Corrupt Maafia.
His efforts made Political Maafia to bow down to the
state.
His even physically got injured at so many occasions
but stay determined.
At last, In 2018 general election PTI came up as the
biggest Political Party having representation from
across the country.
And, KAPTAAN became the 22nd Prime Minister of
Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
