Apple Finalizes Purchase
for Shazam The European Union has given Apple the go-ahead to buy Shazam for
$400 million. Apple announced plans to buy the music app last December. However, plans up until now had largely been stalled because of a
EU investigation. After Apple's announcement, several European countries requested a review of the purchase under EU merger law. It was due to concerns over how other music-streaming services might fare if Shazam were to introduce features with Apple Music. Shazam, which launched in 1999, has more than 120 million monthly active users. It has been downloaded over 1 billion times and used to identity 15 billion songs.
