Threatens 37 Million People The Pacific typhoon is about 280 miles
from the coast of the Philippines The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination
System (GDACS) says that Vietnam and
several parts of China are also likely
to be hit by the typhoon. With the equivalent power of a Category 5 hurricane,
GDACS is predicting Mangkhut will have
a "high humanitarian impact." The eye of the typhoon alone
stretches 78 miles across. Tropical climatologists are calling Mangkhut
the "planet's most powerful storm system
to have developed this year." Greg Browning, Australia's Bureau of Meteorology, via Business Insider Mangkhut is expected to reach the
Philippine island of Luzon on Saturday.
