Pediatric patients at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, California, now have the choice to ride to theater in a stylish Mercedes Benz instead of a gurney, according to a video shared to the hospital’s Facebook page. The June 5 video shows a staff member’s daughter taking the one-seater toy car for a test drive after the hospital decided to introduce it in an attempt to help their young patients relax when they are on their way to surgery.“Doctors Medical Center now has a cool new ride for our little patients heading to the operating room,” according to the Facebook post. “The goal is to make their experience a little less scary, and reduce their anxiety,” the video’s description states.“It’s the best thing ever. The moment we tell them (about the car) and ask if they would like to ride, their face lights up, their parents are excited. That’s one of the biggest things they remember," said Kimberly Martinez, a registered nurse in pre-op, in a local report.According to the same report, the car is intended for children between two and seven years of age, and aims to ease the separation anxiety child surgery patients might experience ahead of their operations. The video had over 13,000 views at the time of writing. In correspondence with Storyful, Doctors Medical Center noted though, that “the little girl in the video is not a patient.” This is also the case with the children seen in the photos below. Rather they are relatives of employees at Doctors Medical Center showing the facilities available to patients there. Credit: Doctors Medical Center via Storyful
