Kochi: The Pala Magistrate court has remanded Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who was arrested in connection with the nun rape case, till October 6. His police custody will expire at 2.30 pm on Monday. He will be shifted to Pala sub jail. The bishop complained that the police had removed his priestly robe. He also said that he suspects this move to be an attempt to create fake evidence. Franco Mulakkal has filed a bail plea in the Kerala High Court on Monday. The court will consider the bail plea in the afternoon, it is learnt. It is pointed out in the bail plea that the bishop had fully cooperated with the investigation and that the arrest was unnecessary. Also it is noted that an anticipatory bail plea was filed and the court had adjourned it. It is learned that the police will oppose the bail plea. Meanwhile, the high court opined that CBI probe is not necessary into the case and also asked to withdraw the plea filed demanding CBI probe. The Division Bench headed by Chief Justice said that the police investigation should be allowed to proceed independently. Thus the petitioners informed the court that they are withdrawing the plea.
