Drive through Palu, Indonesia shows rubble lining both sides of road

Video filmed from the back of a truck shows the devastating aftermath of the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Palu, Indonesia on September 28, killing more than a thousand locals.

The footage, filmed on October 2, shows rubble lining both sides of the street. Only a few structures appear to remain.

Most of the casualties were caused by the quake and the tsunami, though hundreds of others were buried alive under soil that had loosened and collapsed after the earthquake in a process known as liquefaction, one news source reported.

Recovery efforts and mass burials are underway as the island grieves for the lives lost in the deadly disaster.
