at 5:04 p.m. and lasts for 15 seconds. The 7.1 quake was witnessed on live television by millions of people watching game three of the World Series between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics. The quake killed a total of 63 people,
injured more than 3,000 others
and damaged more than
100,000 buildings. Also on this day 1931: Al Capone Goes
to Prison Signaling the beginning of the end for Capone, the gangster is sentenced to 11 years in prison for tax evasion and fined $80,000.
