00:03Everyday is a busy day for the engines of the Narrow Gauge Controller's railway. They toot hello as they pass each other on the hills...
00:13[SKARLOEY AND RHENEAS WHISTLE]
00:16...huff and puff at the Transfer Yards and push and pull freight cars at the Wharf.
00:28Early one morning, Thomas was at the Wharf. He liked the Wharf; it was busy and he met a lot of his friends there, but today Thomas was shunting trucks and the trucks were being especially troublesome.
00:46It was taking all of Thomas' puff to keep them in order. Then, James arrived.
00:55"I am to collect a car of flour to make cakes and bread for the childrens' Harvest Festival Supper," tooted James.
01:03"I wish Sir Topham Hatt had given me that job!" chuffed Thomas. "It would be so much more fun than shunting Troublesome Trucks."
01:12James was feeling very pleased with himself.
01:15"First, I have to take on water," he whistled grandly. "Please shunt the flour car over for me, Thomas."
01:23Thomas didn't want to shunt anymore cars, it meant his job would go on for even longer.
01:30"Bossy boiler!" he puffed.
01:34Thomas found the flour car outside the warehouse. He wanted to move James' car as quickly as he could, so Thomas wasn't taking care. He biffed the car very hard and the door came loose, but Thomas didn't see. An idea had flown into his funnel.
01:57"I'll hide James' car. Then, Bossy Boiler will have to find me!"
02:03Thomas thought hide-and-seek was a grand idea.
02:09James came back from the water-tower. He saw Thomas in the distance and James saw that falling from the car was a trail of flour.
02:21"Stop, Thomas!" whistled James. "Flour's falling out of your car!"
02:27But Thomas was too far away to hear.
02:33Thomas puffed into the warehouse to find somewhere to hide. More and more flour fell from the car. James chased after Thomas.
02:46Thomas heard him coming.
02:48"How does he know where I am?" thought Thomas.
02:52"Thomas - the flour!" whistled James.
02:57But Thomas couldn't hear him.
02:59[JAMES WHISTLES]
03:01"James won't find me this time!" he thought.
03:04Thomas was having fun.
03:08Thomas found another good place to hide.
03:11"James will never find me here," he hooted happily.
03:15But then, he heard James' whistle again.
03:19"Bust my buffers!" chuffed Thomas. "He's found me again!"
03:23So, Thomas puffed off.
03:30Thomas had reversed behind some freight cars.
03:34"James will never find me here," he tooted cheerily.
03:39But just then, he saw James come around the bend.
03:45"Thomas!" puffed James.
03:48He was very cross.
03:50"You've left a trail of flour all over the Wharf!"
03:54"Cinders and ashes!" cried Thomas. "I must've biffed the car so hard that the door came loose!"
04:02Thomas didn't feel cheery anymore.
04:05"If I've lost all the flour, there'll be no cakes and bread for the childrens' Harvest Festival Supper," he wheeshed sadly.
04:13"I'm sorry, James," he chuffed. "I'll get you another car of flour, then you won't be late for the children."
04:20Thomas raced away.
04:28Thomas puffed and he huffed, he wheeshed and he whooshed. He had to get to the mill as fast as he could.
04:38Then, there was trouble. When Thomas arrived at the mill, it was closed. Thomas looked around. He could only see empty flour cars. Thomas felt sadder than ever. Dusty Dave the miller came to see Thomas. He could see that Thomas was very upset.
05:03"I'm going home for my supper now," he told Thomas, "but there's one full flour car right at the back."
05:11Thomas saw the flour car, but there were lots of other cars in the way. He needed help.
05:23Thomas whooshed back to the Wharf. He would have to ask James to help him.
05:32James was waiting. He was still very cross. Thomas pulled up alongside him.
05:40"James, I know you tried to tell me about the flour and I know I was silly, but now I need your help."
05:49James knew that Thomas was sorry and he knew Thomas needed his help, so they set off for the mill.
05:59James and Thomas worked hard. There were lots of freight cars to shunt, but they worked well together and soon, the flour car was coupled up to James and he raced off. Thomas felt proud of his friend.
06:25Later that evening, Sir Topham Hatt stood by a table of wonderful breads and cakes. The children were very excited.
06:36Thomas puffed by on his way home.
06:41"Well done, James!" he tooted.
06:44And James tooted back. Thomas was pleased James was his friend again and Thomas smiled all the way back to Tidmouth Sheds.
