World-renowned Chinese writer Louis Cha Leung-yung, better known by his pen name Jin Yong, died in Hong Kong on October 30, aged 94. Cha had a deep influence on Chinese popular culture over the decades. His novels inspired movies, TV series, video games and other creative productions. Cha was universally regarded as the most influential Chinese wuxia novelist of the 20th century. Wuxia is a genre featuring ancient Chinese warriors, often with superhuman abilities. He was also a respected journalist and founder of Hong Kong’s Ming Pao newspaper.
