Angela Merkel will not seek re-election in 2021, says won't stand as the party leader

After dominating European politics for well over a decade, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that she will not seek re-election in 2021. Merkel has said her fourth term as Germany’s chancellor will be her last. She also stated she would also not run for chancellor if snap elections were called before 2021. Merkel is often hailed as the world’s most powerful woman and the de facto leader of Europe. She dominated the EU politics and remained and influential figure for more than a decade.
