Hollywood actress and philanthropist Angelina Jolie has called for a rigorous protection and screening process for refugees in South Korea, during her three-day visit to the country.
According to the Seoul office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees,... the movie star, who is a special envoy for the agency, met with actor and South Korean goodwill ambassador Jung Woo-sung .
Jolie praised Seoul's efforts in dealing with the influx of Yemeni refugees into Jeju Island earlier this year.
She said Korea has potential to show leadership in humanitarian issues due to its experience of overcoming the Korean War and displacement of its people.
Jung thanked Jolie for promoting the cause of displaced people around the world, and stressed the importance of raising awareness of their plight, amid the rise of discrimination, hatred and nationalism in many countries around the world.
