The Cow and the Cat decide to cross a desert island afoot rather than to sail round it. Soon a sand storm splits them up. The Cow meets Seraphine, a jerboa with a knack for poetry, while the Cat meets Scheherazade, a skinny cow who ran away from the oasis because her owner kept her on a leash. Our friends meet again on the oasis where the Cat discovers an astonishing phenomenon called mirage.
