Regularly trim your nails. To begin, clip them every two weeks. It can be more or less, you need to see how your nails respond. If you are used to having snags or breakage, it's better to keep them short.
Shorter nails with a round edge tends to be easier to keep up and looks neat.
Always have an emery board with you.
Don't cut or remove your cuticles. When you do it breaks the seal of protection between the nail and the skin, which can lead to bacterias or infections. Simply push back the cuticle gently after getting out of the shower.
Try to skip acrylic or gel treatments once in a while. Your nails take a toll each time.
Never forget the base coat and the top coat.
Eat the right food for your nails. You can take vitamins and supplements, such as vitamin E and fish oil.
Also try to eat protein-rich food. Like beans, fish and nuts.
Oh and don't forget to moisturize! Just like your skin and hair, your nails need to be moisturized.
