Third Canadian detained in China

A third Canadian, teacher Sarah McIver from Alberta, has been detained in China over reported visa issues.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he does not see the case as being linked to two previous detentions since the December 1 arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou. China’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said she was unaware of the case.
Meng is free on bail until a hearing in Canada regarding her possible extradition to the US to face charges the company broke US sanctions on Iran. Soon after her detention, China arrested former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig and China-based Canadian business consultant Michael Spavor, accusing them of “activities that endangered China's national security.”
