A Saudi woman being held at Bangkok airport on Monday barricaded her room at the hotel she is staying in and made videos seeking support for her appeal not to be deported back to her country.
Rahaf Mohammed al-Qunun told AFP she ran away from her family while travelling in Kuwait because they subjected her to physical and psychological abuse.
She said she planned to travel to Australia and seek asylum there and feared her life could be in danger if Thai authorities deported her back to Saudi Arabia.
The incident comes in the backdrop of tight scrutiny of Saudi Arabia over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi last year and the subsequent investigations that have widely been suspected to be inefficient.
