Trail Estate Winery Pét Nat in Prince Edward County

Jules and I took a drive about 2 hours East of where we live in Toronto to visit “Terroir 2018” in Picturesque Picton, Prince Edward County. The ‘County’ is a booming Canadian wine region that is producing some great wines at smaller scale wineries that are willing to take chances and push the craft forward.
Today we are speaking with winemaker Mackenzie Brisbois and tasting the Trail Estates Winery ‘Pét Nat’ (Pétillant Naturel).
This wine is 60% Riesling, 30% Geisenheim and 10% Gewürztraminer — from the Trail Estates Winery vineyard. It’s bottled part way through a wild-ferment on skin - about 8 days - without any additions (no extra yeasts, sugars or sulphurs) this yields naturally ocurring bubbles, in a wine that is visually cloudy. A very complex and refreshing wine!
