Why Sage Durvasa cursed Apsara Vapu | ARTHA | AMAZING FACTS

Many stories claim that Rishi Durvasa received equal honor from both Manavas and Devas. He was famous either for his harsh nature or curses which even terrified Demigods. In this video, we unfold one such narrative that was beforehand recited by Rishi Markendeya in his Purana.

1. Hindu Puranas remember Sage Durvasa, as a short temper Rishi who was born to Rishi Atri and Anasuya.
2. Sage Durvasa is famed in many narratives for his fearful nature and raging anger.
3. In one such narrative by Markandeya, Devraj Indra and his Apsaras were once enjoying their time.
4. After a short while when Devrishi Narada joined them, Indra Dev told him that both Gandharvas and Apsaras would like to entertain him.
5. Instead Narada Muni wished for a dance recital by a particular Apsara who was superior than the one’s present there.
6. This statement by Narada led to a dispute among the Apsaras which was later followed by a competition.
7. Narada considered them to test their charm by breaking Sage Durvasa's holistic observance, which none of the Apsara agreed to do.
8. Apsara Vapu was the only one who accepted to breach his penance and started singing charming melodies.
9. Durvasa understood the Apsara’s intentions and he cursed her to become a bird for sixteen years.
10. He also pronounced that she would never bear a child and would ultimately regain her original form after being killed.
