1 Shaligram Shila is a rare piece of spherical black-colored stone that is closely associated with Lord Vishnu.

2 In Hindu traditions, Shaligram is typically observed as the very form of Lord Vishnu. Shaligrams are said to be collected from riverbeds and banks of the Gandaki river in Nepal.

3 According to a popular mythological tale, it is due to a powerful curse accepted by Lord Vishnu that turned him into this stone.

4 This divine stone has the iconic symbol of Shankha, Gada, Chakra or Padma marked on it. Every stone has these four icons arranged in distinctive orders and is referred with different names.

5 For example, a Shaligram that has the symbols arranged in this order, “Shankha, Chakra, Gada or Padma” is called Keshava.

6 The spiritual gurus also refer to it as an important element that possesses the energy like a micro-cosmos and can create complication if not handled with proper care.

7 A genuine Shaligram is extremely rare to find and if someone happens to find one, the holder has to perform stringent customs to sustain it.

8 The person has to perform daily worship of Shaligram under any circumstances whatsoever and make specific offerings. Such appeased Shaligram tend to bring good fortune and is treated as an auspicious icon.
