Sink or swim for ex-guide dog failing at underwater treadmill

++CLIENTS PLEASE NOTE: THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN LOOPED++ Ex-guide dog Diesel got into a bit of a panic and started swimming instead of walking on a water treadmill in Wellington, New Zealand.
The eleven-year-old dog suffers from arthritic pain and was taken by his owner to go on a water treadmill to exercise his joints on January 27.
Diesel's spirit is best described in a quote from his owner saying that: "He didn’t quite get it at first, but tried his best with a heckin' good swim."
In order to teach Diesel how to use the underwater treadmill properly, the water level in the tank was lowered down until he was walking rather than swimming.
