A young girl had to be rescued after she fell into a panda enclosure in the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan province, China. The animals inside had started to gather around the girl but appeared to be curious rather than threatening. A security guard had to hang upside down to reach the girl and pull her to safety. No one was injured in the incident which happened on Saturday, February 9, as the Lunar New Year holiday drew to a close.
The Chengdu facility, one of the few places where pandas are protected in the wild, is a popular sightseeing attraction. It attracted 30,000 visitors during the 2019 new year period.
