Solar energy generates electricity through the absorption and molecular modification of the sun's light and heat by photovoltaic cells. Larger and more complex thermal power stations turn solar energy into electricity through the rotation of turbines. It is the epitome of clean, renewable energy as it produces no pollution or noise and is readily available as long as the sun shines.
Furthermore, solar energy's production, distribution and storage is versatile and waste free. Batteries can store the energy harnessed, either at night and in case of inclement weather, and this energy can also be distributed through a national grid of electricity pylons according to need and demand. In recent decades, huge solar farms have spread for miles across arid and semi-arid regions in countries like the United States and Spain; some of the sunniest parts of the world.
The falling price of PV cells, their ever greater production capacity and tax incentives from energy companies and national governments are creating a booming energy industry. And ordinary households often choose to have panels installed as the market becomes more cost-effective.
