NEW DELHI: Tata Motors on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking order to restrain West Bengal government from taking back and distributing farmers the land, which was earlier allocated to the company by the previous government to set up Nano car project at Singur.

The company, which on Monday failed to get any relief from the Calcutta High Court, has challenged the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development (SLRD) Act, passed by the state Assembly for taking back possession of the land and distributing it among farmers who owned them before the acquisition by the previous Left Front government.

As per the cause list of the apex court, the Special Leave Petition of Tata Motors is listed as item no. 8 for hearing on Wednesday before a vacation bench comprising Justice P Sathasivam and Justice AK Patnaik. Senior counsel and noted corporate lawyer Mukul Rohatgi will argue Tata's case in the apex court.
