Suno India : Modi staging 'fake encounter' with facts, P. Chidambaram

India News :Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Monday accused Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi of "staging an encounter with facts" over growth claims in the NDA rule.
"Modi's claim that India grew at 8.4 per cent during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government is false," Chidambaram said in a statement.

In his address to the Indian diaspora on Sunday, Modi had said: "I want to tell the Congress friends, do you at least agree that when Vajpayee government was there, growth rate was 8.4 per cent but now it is 4.8 per cent under this (UPA) government?"Chidambaram said the 8.4 per cent was the average growth rate for UPA-1, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's first government. "If there was a golden period of growth, it was the five year period under UPA-I," he said.
