NewsX@9 is a NewsX special which debates on the main news event of the day. The Pakistan presidency announced the pardon of Indian prisoner, Sarabjit Singh, yesterday. Five hours later, they did a u-turn, claiming the instruction to release pertained to another Indian prisoner, Surjeet Singh, and not Sarabjit Singh. Among Indian officials, there is considerable debate about whether Pakistani media made a huge mistake, or if the government was pressured by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) or the Pakistani army to reverse its decision to release Sarabjit, whose case has prompted campaigns by human rights activists, including Pakistani Ansar Burney. So today we debate - Has Islamabad come under pressure from hardliners to backtrack from Sarabjit's release? We debate the question and try to evolve consensus among our panelists over the issue.
