Respite for Ashok Chavan in Paid news case

The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi High Court to decide on the disqualification of Ashok Chavan over the paid news issue in the next 15 days.
The Delhi High Court had earlier stayed an Election Commission showcause notice to the former Maharashtra Chief Minister in July. The Election Commission had issued a notice to Chavan for failing to lodge his election expenses as per law in the 2009 paid news case.
The EC had on July 25 told the High Court that being a quasi-judicial body, it will not defend its order holding Chavan guilty of failing to give his correct expenses in the 2009 assembly polls.
