At a time when the ruling AIADMK looks formidable in Tamil Nadu after a string of electoral wins since 2011, the main opposition DMK, gripped by sibling rivalry, seems wobbly, without any clear direction.
Though DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin has emerged unchallenged in the organisation, his critics argue that his “refusal to be accommodative” has prevented the party president, M. Karunanidhi, from making the next move.
Highly placed sources in the DMK said Mr. Stalin was upset that his father was placing “family before the party,” affecting the DMK’s interests.
