EC Notice to MNS Chief over October 5 election rally in Ghatkopar

The Election Commission of India Monday issued a notice to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray for violating the Model Code of Conduct by making statements against non-Maharashtrians during election rallies and asked him to explain his stand by 11 am on October 15. The MNS chief had allegedly said only Marathi boys and girls would be given employment in the state and that “no-entry” boards would be put up at the state’s borders for outsiders.

The EC’s notice follows a report — accompanied by video-clips — sent by Mumbai’s district election officer-cum-district magistrate in which Thackeray has been accused of having made remarks targeting non-Maharashtrians at two public meetings — in Ghatkopar and Kalina on October 5 and October 7, respectively.
