Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan has been summoned by a Los Angeles Federal Court over a controversial slogan in 1984 following the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Bachchan has been summoned for allegedly raising a slogan of "blood for blood" instigating violence against the Sikh community in 1984, after Gandhi's Sikh bodyguards assassinated her.
The actor has 21 days to respond.

Petitioner Gurupatwant Pannun, member of US-based human rights group "Sikhs For Justice", has accused Bachchan of instigating violence through his slogan on 31 October, 1984, against the community. Hundreds of Sikhs were killed in deadly riots in India in November that year.
