#MissionSouthBegins: Why BJP eyeing Tamil Nadu?

With a mission to galvanise and strengthen the party in the run up to the 2016 Assembly polls, BJP National President Amit Shah arrived here on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu today.

After his success in Haryana, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, Mr Shah was on a mission to ensure that the Lotus also bloomed in Tamil Nadu where it was eyeing to win a major chunk of seats in the next Assembly Polls, due in 16 months.

His visit comes at a time when the BJP was trying to portray itself as the alternative to the Dravidian majors--AIADMK and the DMK-- who had been ruling the State for the last four decades.

The BJP had been talking of filling the vacuum caused in state politics following the crisis in the ruling AIADMK in the wake of conviction of Ms Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate case, the 2G cases faced by the DMK first family and the Congress having split in the State with former Union Minister G K Vasan forming his own party
