Police assaults cab driver for blocking ‘VIP’ car in Kolkata

A cab driver in Kolkata was assaulted and abused for blocking a police station in-charge's vehicle. The driver who was taking two Mumbai women on a whirlwind tour of the city was abused, his documents confiscated and slapped with irrational charges. The cabby had unknowingly obstructed the car of a VIP when he stopped near the Belur Math main gate. When the girl asked what was wrong and why the driver was being assaulted, the policeman asked the women to mind her own business. The women later learned that Bally police station in-charge Prabir Chatterjee was in the vehicle. The police confiscated several documents from taxi driver Sarif Tarafdar, including his licence, smart card and insurance papers.
