Jayalalitha DA Case: SC Terms SPP's Appointment by TN Govt 'Bad in Law'

The Supreme Court today held that Tamil Nadu government has no right to appoint advocate Bhawani Singh as special public prosecutor (SPP) to appear in Karnataka High Court for J Jayalalitha's disproportionate assets case.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra, however said, though the appointment of the SPP is "bad in law", it does not warrant "de novo" (fresh) hearing of appeals of the convicts, including the AIADMK chief.
