Auburn University gymnast Samantha Cerio suffered devastating injuries to both of her legs during a floor routine over the weekend at the NCAA Regional Semifinal competition in Louisiana.
In the graphic video, the college senior can be seen landing awkwardly, as both legs snap in front of her.
On Monday, April 8, Auburn gymnastics coach Jeff Graba released a statement detailing that Cerio dislocated both of her knees and sustained multiple torn ligaments in both knees after her landing.

“After 18 years I am hanging up my grips and leaving the chalk behind,” she wrote. “I couldn’t be prouder of the person that gymnastics has made me to become. It’s taught me hard work, humility, integrity, and dedication, just to name a few. It’s given me challenges and road blocks that I would have never imagined that has tested who I am as a person.”
Cerio already had a pretty good back-up plan. She’s an aerospace engineering major who boasts a 3.48 grade point average and upon her graduation in May she has accepted a job to work for Boeing in Seattle.
“It may not have ended the way I had planned, but nothing ever goes as planned,” she shared on Instagram.
