Having had his initial success as a songwriter in his early career, it wasn't until the 1970s that Mel Tillis had his biggest success with a string of top 10 hits. He also won many prestigious awards such as the CMA Entertainer of the Year and a National Medal of Arts award for his contribution to country music.

"Burning Memories", released in 1977, reached #9 on the US Country Charts and #7 on the Canadian Country Charts.
