Before reaching his success with songs including "Farewell Party" and "14 Carat Mind", Gene Watson began his career singing in local clubs in the early 1970s.

"Speak Softly (You're Talking to My Heart)" written by Jesse Mendenhall and Steve Spurgin reached #9 on the US Country charts in 1982.
