Maserati celebrates the eightieth anniversary of the prestigious victory of Luigi "Gigi" Villoresi at the wheel of the Maserati Tipo 6CM in the Targa Florio of 1939.

On May 14, 1939 in Palermo, on the Parco della Favorita circuit, the Milanese rider won the victory covering the 40 laps of the race, some 228 km long, in a time of 1h40'15 "2/5. Luigi Villoresi also got the fastest lap of the race in 2 '24 "3/5 at an average of 141,908 km / h. On the podium he was joined by Piero Taruffi and Guido Franco Barbieri, both also at the wheel of the Maserati Tipo 6CM. A historic result for the House of the Trident that in this way confirmed an indisputable leadership in the prestigious Sicilian race, since also in the editions of 1937 and 1938 had seen the absolute dominance of Maserati, when classifying three vehicles in the first three positions. Luigi Villoresi would win again in 1940 at the controls of a Maserati Tipo 4CL.
