Three-legged alligator spotted at Florida nature reserve

A visitor to a nature reserve in Florida has captured on video a three-legged alligator walking across a path.

The filmer said she was walking around Circle B Bar Reserve in Polk County when she spotted the large reptile emerging from the side of a trail.

The alligator's rear leg on the right-hand side was clearly missing and the animal was struggling to shift its considerable weight across the path.

After a few awkward steps, though, the gator made it across the path slipped effortlessly into the water on the other side.

It's unclear why the alligator was missing a leg but adult males are solitary, territorial animals which will often fight other males encroaching on their patch.
