A thief broke into a Hindu temple near Kharghar in western India on May 22 and tried to loot a safe box.
But the safe box where the devotees had put money turned out to be too heavy for him to carry.
A CCTV camera at the temple captured the thief struggling to lift it. He gave up and started to drag it.
The sound alerted the villagers, who chased and captured the thief, and his accomplice.
Police said the incident took place at Vitthal Rukhmini temple in village Belpada and identified the suspects as Zakir Hussain and Nausidin Qureshi.
''Zakir broke in while Nausidin kept watching outside. If both had gone inside the temple they could have probably carried off the safe,'' a police officer said.
