How to Extract a tar.xz File Using Terminal on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS?
Right click on the Desktop, and then click on 'Open terminal'. Now, go to the directory where you have you tar.xz file. After that, follow he steps below:-
Step 1: Update System Repositories
sudo apt update
Step 2: Install the package xz-utils
sudo apt install xz-utils
Step 3: To Extract type the command below:-
sudo tar -xvf name_of_file
x: It tells tar to extract the files.
v: It is verbose, it lists all the files in the archive.
f: It stands for file, It tells tar the name and path of the compressed file.
