South Korea plans to eradicate malaria in the country by 2021 and get international recognition as a nation free of that virus.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention announced its plans to gain that WHO recognition by 2024.
South Korea currently has the most reported cases of the disease among OECD members, with one in a hundred-thousand people being infected last year.
About ninety percent of the cases occur near the demilitarized zone in Incheon, Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do Provinces.
