Can Stand on Public Land At issue in the ruling

40-foot World War I memorial
cross on public land in Maryland. In the 7-2 decision, the
Court ruled in part that
because the cross "has
stood for so many years," it is "fully consistent" with
the aim of "the Religion
Clause of the Constitution." The ruling could imply that
