A court on Tuesday sentenced a woman who stole a baby from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to 5 years in prison.
The woman, only identified as Kemunto, stole one of the twins — namely baby Prince Ouko — from KNH on February 18, 2018, after she was asked by the infant’s father to check on them.
Nairobi Court Chief Magistrate Roselyn Oganyo said during her ruling that the prosecution was successful in proving its case.
According to the father of the twins, a Mr Ouko, he had to wheel his wife to a hospital room on the day his son was stolen.
Ouko sought the help of two women to help him carry the twins while he took the mother to the hospital room but on coming back the other woman told him Kemunto had ran away with his baby.
The father reported the issue immediately to KNH management where the CCTV showed an unkempt woman with red top and black skirt leaving the gate with his son.
Ouko’s tragedy was aired on TV and a woman came forward reporting her neighbour of coming home with a baby after she had experienced a miscarriage a few days earlier.
Kemunto pleaded guilty February 27, 2018 but later changed her plea to not guilty.
