Overcoming Obsessive Compulsion Disorder (OCD): OCD is known to impact millions of Americans at any given time. It's possible to have obsessions or compulsive thoughts, however, most people with OCD suffer from both. OCD is manifested when unwanted, intrusive and often distressing thoughts enter the mind. Which is followed by a provoking feeling of intense anxiety. OCD is a chronic disorder, which means that one can get it under control and recover but there is no complete cure. The 2 main recommended treatments for OCD are Psychological therapy and Medication. Common obsessions include fears of contamination or germs and causing harm to oneself or others. Whereas, common compulsions include excessive cleaning and hand washing. As debilitating OCD can be it responds well to non-medical therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Indeed for most people, OCD should be considered as the first line of treatment for its efficacy, for having no risk of drug side effects and having a relatively low relapse rate.
