Basic aquarium maintenance is not time-consuming if the tank is set-up properly. Here are some short-term and long-term maintenance tips, to keep your fishes happy and healthy: 1. Day-to-day Check-ups: You can start off by checking in on the fishes and the water temperature every day. 2. Weekly Check-ups: Clean the insides of the front glass as well as the outsides of the glass with a special sponge. Don't forget to change at least 10-15% of the water. Test the water and check in particular the absence of Nitrites. Clean the accessories and decorations of the aquarium. 3. Fortnight Check-ups: In case if you have not changed the bare 10% of water the previous week, you need to recompensate by changing 25% this week. 4. 6 Month Check-ups: Change the filters and the lighting system. For the comfort of your fish, it is advisable to change the entire aquarium every 5 years.
