La 1 1956 - 2008

La 1 (The One) is the flagship television channel of Spanish public broadcaster Radiotelevisión Española. It was launched on 28 October 1956, being the first television service to ever operate in Spain. Televisión Española was the original name of the channel from 1956 until the launch of sister channel La 2 in 1965. It was renamed in 1965, as La Primera or Primera Cadena, TVE1. Since 2008, its current name is La 1.
