VH1 (stylized as Vl+1, sometimes as VH1 and originally an initialism of Video Hits One) is an American cable television network based in New York City that is owned by Viacom Music and Entertainment Group, a unit of the Viacom Media Networks division of Viacom. It launched on January 1, 1985, in the old space of Turner Broadcasting System's shortlived Cable Music Channel. The original purpose of the channel was to build on the success of MTV by playing music videos, but targeting a slightly older demographic than its sister channel, focusing on the lighter, softer side of popular music.
You might notice that I miss the 1998 VH1 logo (based on Logopedia), in which the design was a circled-1 with the "VH" inside the "1" and the slogan "Music First™" below the circled-1. The circled-1 logo was used for promos on that 1994 period until 2003, also used for on-screen graphic, but most of the VH1 IDs on the given period is the uncircled-1.
