Plagued by decades of conflict since the collapse of the Siad Barre government in 1991, Somalia enlisted the support of AMISOM to fight insurgents responsible for the statelessness and weak institutions. The Police component of the African Union mission is hard at work helping Somalia reconstruct a state before the expiry of the peacekeeping mission in the country by 2021.
