The Oldest Operating Webcam On Earth Will Soon Shut Down.
After a quarter of a century, "FogCam," which is located in San Francisco,
will end its run at the end of August.
The camera was set up at
San Francisco State University
back in 1994 by two students.
The students, Jeff Schwartz and
Dan Wong, made the announcement
in a recent Twitter post.
After 25 years, Fogcam is shutting down forever at the end of August. Webdog & Danno thank our viewers and San Francisco State University for their support over the years, @FogCam, via Twitter.
The Internet has changed a lot since 1994, but Fogcam will always have a special place in its history, @FogCam, via Twitter.
According to Schwartz, the pair
have run out of secure locations to
continue running the webcam.
The bottom line is that we no longer have a really good view or place to put the camera. The university tolerates us, but they don’t really endorse us and so we have to find secure locations on our own, Jeff Schwartz, via SFGate
